Creating Better Business Pages for LinkedIn

Despite gaining much popularity over the last few years, LinkedIn remains a highly underrated platform for businesses. So far, individuals have used it to spread word about their skills, network and carve better careers, but there is a goldmine of opportunities for small and medium businesses too, if only they do it right.

One of the most important tools for business visibility on LinkedIn is ‘company pages’. While setting up a page for your business is quite easy, you need to think creatively when it comes to making it work. Here are some tips:

  • Ask for recommendations: Yes, even businesses can get recommended by customers for their products and services. You can access this feature in the Products & Services tab by clicking the “Request Recommendation” button. The good thing is that as soon as someone recommends your business, the update is shared across his/her network, giving you instant visibility.
  • The Overview: The Overview section is what people are going to see first about your company, but unfortunately, only a small portion of it is visible. Make the most of this space by sticking to the most useful information only – who you are and what the visitor will gain by following you. If there’s a particular tab or offer you want to leverage, then this is the place to do it. But remember to keep it very concise, or the advantage is gone.
  • Post interesting updates: The worst thing about most business pages on LinkedIn is that they are boring. Don’t be one of them. At times, dare to step beyond the humdrum industry updates and post something that connects with people instantly – the launch of Angry Birds Space, for instance.
  • Spread word through ads: You can also buy ads on LinkedIn to promote your services or products. People are given the option to either recommend your business or share the ad when they see it. As of now there is very little crowding, and buying LinkedIn ads makes a lot of sense for businesses trying to leverage the platform.
